Are you a researcher interested in using the Cambridge BioResource?

The Cambridge BioResource is open to both Cambridge based researchers and researchers who are in collaboration with a Cambridge based Principle Investigator. If you are interested in applying to the CBR please complete the application form below.

Application to CBR - Microsoft Word document
Application to CBR - PDF document

Your application must include details of the number of volunteers the study requires and statistical support for this figure. Applications requiring blood samples greater than 50 ml must also include a statment of justification for the volume requested.

All applications to the Cambridge BioResource must be reviewed and approved by the CBR Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), which meets quarterly. New applications must be received at least 5 working days prior to the SAB meeting if they are to be considered. The next meetings will be held on the 7th March and 20th June 2012.

Please email your completed form to cbr@cambridgebioresource.org.uk. Signed and dated copies can be sent to:

In the event of CBR SAB approval it is the responsibility of the researcher to supply the Cambridge BioResource with proof of full ethical and NHS R+D approval (where applicable) and a set of study paperwork suitable for recruitment of Cambridge BioResource volunteers, including a participant information leaflet, volunteer consent form and any other relevant paperwork such as questionnaires. The study paperwork will need to be reviewed and approved by the CBR SAB prior to recruitment of CBR volunteers. If the paperwork has already been ethically approved it can be submitted with your application to the CBR.

If you have any questions about the application process or need advice or help with amending study paperwork please call Sarah Nutland on 01223 763 223 or email her at sarah.nutland@cimr.cam.ac.uk.

In the case of already ethically approved study applications it is not unusual for a substantial amendment to be needed to the research ethics committee to include the recruitment of volunteers from CBR in the study protocol and a slight amendment to the participant information sheet to make it more suitable for CBR volunteers.

Following the study the Cambridge BioResource should be acknowledged in publications in the form below:

"We gratefully acknowledge the participation of all Cambridge BioResource (CBR) subjects. We thank staff of the CBR for assistance with volunteer recruitment. We thank members of the Cambridge BioResource SAB and Management Committee for their support and the National Institute for Health Research Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre for funding.”
